Body of both Valkyries is almost identical – in the back there are placed two rubberized buttons. They can be operated by pushing from the back or from the side (they work more or less like pressure pads): Ä Short push turns on the light; Ä Holding the button for more than 1 second, turns the light into momentary mode Ä Double push activates 10Hz strobe mode (Gen 1 only) Ä Pushing both buttons simultaneously acti- vates strobe (Gen 2) or two blue 2 lumen 3535 LEDs above the head (Gen 1 only) Differences between two generations are in the front, where the small canopy us. In Valkyrie I it is smooth and shields two blue LEDs placed underneath, above the head of the light. In the second generation is has transverse ribbing playing role of some kind of radia- tor – Gen 2 lacks blue LEDs. Head of the flashlight is screwed in the body and doubles the battery compartment cover. To replace the battery, head must be unscrewed. Connection is sealed with rubber gasket and the weaponlights meet the IPX6 water and moisture resistance stan- dards. The Cree XP-L white light LED generates 400 (Valkyrie I) or 450 lumens (Valkyrie II) is placed together with the reflector and electronics. The LED provides ap- prox. 100 meters of range but but it works best at 50- 60 meters distance, enough for pistol WML. In white light beam there is significant spot (50 centimeters diameter at 3 meters distance and about 10 centi- meters at 40 meters). Spill is less pronounced and from 3 meters it has diameter of 2.5-3 meters, and from the 25 meter its diameter is also 25 meters. This means that PL-1 weaponlights can't be used as aim- ing device, what others with more focused light can do, but will be great for illuminating rooms or bigger space in the open area. Heads differ from each oth- er from the outside, in the older version it has silver rim around the glass and noticeable nubs all around, newer is all black and have aggressive texture. www.fragoutmag.com
