VEHICLES which is a nice surprise in the segment of cars where com- fort is less important for the manufacturers and we feel that in form of pain in the back. Of course, there is no point of comparing those seats with those from "upgrade packages", but as the Basic version they are decent. The large mirrors are another advantage. They are very helpful to control the space around the car when driving or ma- neuvering in crowded underground parking lot. But wait, they are not large... they are huge, almost like the ones you find in tractors. The trunk is cool – it has a capacity of almost 420 liters, quite a lot. We do not need to worry about lack of space when packing for vacation or during big (really BIG) shopping. The trunk can be accessed through a single door that opens quite high. The trunk bottom edge was lowered as much as it was possible but it is still not an SUV, so you cannot compare it to a Mini. A pity, but you can't have everything. There are two shortcomings: the access to the storage compartment below the central console is difficult, be- cause it is partially covered by the gear stick. Another thing – and there is no room for talking about habits – is the arrangement of cup holders. The fact that they are arranged in a row, one by one, sometimes leads to confu- sion. A small, but practical element is the twin USB port. For starters, we may charge our smartphone and listen to some music. Speaking of music – the default radio and the set of speakers is surprisingly good. But one thing must be said here – ASX is like Tardis from Doctor Who. Its inside is larger in comparison to its size, which has been achieved thanks to the wheelbase of 270 cm. Meanwhile, the (tiltable) backseat might be convenient for two adult persons, since the central seat is rather rec- ommended for short travels. Thanks to the short front and rear overhang, driving that car through an overcrowded city is a pleasure. If we add the almost 20 cm of ground clearance, we will discover that the car is also good for overcoming many types of terrain obstacles.
