Since Poland is deploying its latest and greatest fighters and
this version of F-16's never appeared in Baltic states (in past
deployments, Polish pilots were flying MIG-29 Fulcrum), the activity
of Russian aircraft can increase.
On the 15th May Polish F-16's had intercept Il-20 (NATO Code:
Coot-A) ECM/ELINT aircraft and Spanish F-18's had intercept the
Su-24 (NATO Code: Fencer) attack aircraft. But no one expects the
provocations known from Greek and Turkish incidents, were both
countries are testing their latest toys. The responsibilities of Polish
fighter pilots will be exactly the same as in country, where one of
four Tactical Air Bases has a QRA pair on 24/7/365 basis, ready to
respond to call from COAC in Uedem, but this summer might be
bit hotter for pilots. The Polish deployment will end in the early
September when the crew from USA will take over responsibilities.
