The EMS TC3 training FRAG OUT! POV TC3 – Back to basics Bartosz Szołucha The basic TCCC course is a great intake of theoretical knowledge and practical classes – the training of a dozen of hours is the absolute required minimum to make you know how to deal with situations when you or your comrades get injured in a high-risk territory. Thanks to the courtesy of Eagle Med System, I had the opportunity to join war correspondents and journalists who travel to dangerous places. Why do war correspondents need a course compliant with TCCC standards? The answer is simple – as a part of their job, they may find themselves in a situation in which they must know how to help people injured by gunfire or fragments. Unfortunately, contrary to soldiers, they will not be able to use weapons to evacuate the injured. That is why the course was properly adjusted to the needs of that particular group – we did not focus too much on tactics. Is it possible to learn basic first aid skills in such a short period? If you are a decently clever chimp, you should not have any problems after you learn the basic rules, techniques and procedures – of course, the gained knowledge must be constantly revised and practiced, because under a stressful situation it might occur that "the bloody TQ won't work", although manufacturers still try to simplify the process of application of first aid equipment. Instructors who conducted the classes were focused on communicating the maximum amount of knowledge, both theoretical and practical. They highlighted the importance of taking care of own safety in the situation of facing the real danger. What would be the point of helping your wounded friend, if someone else had to save your life shortly after?
