Yeah, I got assigned as a driver – trooper – paramed- ic. It worked like that then. It was a bit of an aftermath of a former political system. Of course, it got changed pretty quickly. I do not think you can picture a medic that tends to the casualties and drives a car at the same time… Quite a few times I heard you saying that you did not know much about your job then. You were just a silly army medic with band–aids in his pockets. Did you ever think that one day you would become one of the best trained medics in the country? Did you want to? Hell yes, of course I did want to. I always thought that despite the fact that I did not start my military career in JWK, I will show them. All of them. I will show them that WIR will and can be really good. I wanted to show them that I get it all. I never said that I am the best trained Polish life saver. I know plenty of great specialists that I consider better than myself. I am nothing more and nothing less than a medic, I just always tried to save my casualties. Before you ended up as a paramedic you have become a JTAC. How did that even happen? You see, this course was an absolute novelty then. The only thing they told me was that I will be talking to the planes. No one really knew what it was all about. It was said though that all of it will be in English and in 2005 my English was already on a pretty good level. I think that such training was not only extremely ex- pensive but it took a big chunk of your time as well. Wouldn't you say that it was wasting both, time and money, when you finally specialized in something com- pletely different? No, I do not think so. Now, every soldier on the battle- field is capable of summoning help from the air. Maybe this training did not help me much in my "usual" duties but I look at it as another experience, gaining knowl- edge, broadening possibilities of development.
