jThey do not strike you with an excess of tactical features – several meters away and you would almost think those are regular pants. They have (in my opinion) the proper number and arrangement of pockets, but the left cargo pocket could have had a small pocket for a smartphone (that would suit my taste and habit). Front pockets are deep enough, and the profiled edge allows convenient carrying of a multi-tool or a folder knife. However, I prefer using the mag pouch because it is a reliable and easily accessible place for a folder knife. Surprisingly, it does not hinder you when you sit or crouch. I tried to carry an Olight S10 in that pocket, but I gave up. It slides in too much and it is then difficult to get it out. S30R is a better choice. However, I do not always carry it with me (it is slightly too big for my taste), but I used it at several trips and shooting drills and it worked better than in the case of S10. Basically, the pockets should be used for small (thin) flashlights, because the truly tactical ones would rather not fit. Side pockets have limited capacity – it would be even pointless to compare them with UTP, but that is a totally different approach and design. The flap works, but, unfortunately, it has a tendency to unfasten, especially during dynamic movement or change of position. The Velcro strap itself loses its adhesiveness pretty fast but that should not be a problem. It can be easily replaced with a new one. The fabric of the pants is nice, decently breathable, while DWR works perfectly until the first wash. It wears off after the first washing – tough, but that is the fate of DWR and Clawgear Defiant Flex Pants is not supposed to be waterproof. Maybe they will get wet easily, but they will dry up fast. After several washings, in the seam area they start to lose color – not a big deal, but it is a noticeable change. I really do not mind it, the loss of color is not that bad, and it gives the pants that vintage look… www.fragoutmag.com
