In the packs from the early production (before changes), it can be easily noticed that the plastic grid tend to wear the "envelope" fabric. What is more, it was stiff and not necessarily comfortable, but it had the advantage that it did not absorb any moisture. 1980's mOdIFICATIONS Next changes in the MIL-SPECs were introduced on 13 December 1983 (Large) and on 14 February 1984 (Medium). A paper manual was replaced with an overprint on the inside of the flap. All changes from the period of 1979-1984 were finally summarized in MIL-F-43833C dated 23 and 24 June 1986. Those specs, however, were quickly updated on 28 July 1987 as new class of packs in Woodland camouflage pattern was added. Since then, Medium and Large, Class 1 packs were made in Woodland camouflage and Class 2 were solid OG106 olive-green nylon pack cloth. In reality, production of Medium OG106 packs was ended with the DLA100-86-C-4034 contract awarded for Amertex Enterprises) At the same time, production of Woodland Medium packs was launched (NSN 8465-01-253-5335.) The first Woodland packs were produced by Camel Manufacturing Company (DLA100-88-C-4058). Production of Large packs in Woodland camouflage was never launched because plans of issuing the Integrated Individual Fighting System (IIFS) with new large pack sub-system. The production of OG106 Large field packs was continued. By the end of the 1980s and launch of Woodland Medium packs production, both o the packs were simplified – removed were capacity adjustment cords and almost all grommets on the webbing straps (these were kept only in the machete attachment points). 1990-2000's On 14 February 1990, a MIL-F-43833D specification was announced, for the Medium field packs, which introduced LC-2 designation. I did not manage, however, to find the similar designation for Large packs, yet they had been designated as LC-1 until the end of production.
