As every AR-15, Pioneeer Arms M16A4 fires from locked bolt. Weapon works on taking some of the gases and di- recting them by small opening on the barrel with system called Direct Gas Impingement (DGI, often called Stoner system). On the top portion of the bolt carrier there is gas key that front portion has contact with back of the thin steel pipe place directly above the barrel, that direct gases when bolt carrier group is in forward position. When BCG is in rear position front of the gas key is behind the pipe and moves gases to gas chamber that is located between back portion of the bolt and the bolt carrier. On the bolt there are three gas rings that block the gases to move out- side from the gas chamber. Bolt with seven bearing lugs is locked through the twist. Rifle was made 100% accordingly with original technical specification of M16A4 and has identical design. Lower receiver and upper receiver are forged from 7076 alumi- num alloy – they were put together by two pins thanks to what, taking down and cleaning is super easy and does not require tools. On the right side of upper receiver there is manual forward assist, case deflector that protects face of the shooter, especially left handed, and ejection port with the cover. Distinctive for AR-15 T-shaped charging handle is located in the back portion of the upper receiver and right above it there is integrated Picatinny rail (MIL-STD-1913) designed for optoelectronic sights or carrying handle. Lower receiver houses trigger mechanism that is adjusted to fire single fire and three rounds bursts. Rifle has ambi- dextrous safety lever with three positions (safe, semi and burst). Magazine release button in placed on the right side of the lower receiver. It is covered by big spreads what prevent unwanted release of the magazine. Plastic pistol grip has fang to separate the fingers. Fixed plastic stock is mounted on buffer tube. Inside the stock is compartment for cleaning kit (access through buttpad). 20 inch (508 mm) barrel is made from nitrogen steel by dragging method. Barrels produced with that technolo- gy characterizes highly precision rate, evenly spread out tension alongside whole surface of the pipe and relatively shallow rifling (within minimum determined by CIP stan- dard). They are recommended mostly for precision rifles, so using them in mass produced weapons is not common. What's interesting is using dragging method allow to use all kind of steel alloys to produce barrels. In M16A4 has right-handed rifling with twist 178 mm (1:7 RH) and is ended with standard A2 bird cage with five grooves. Distinctive triangle front sight post (adjustable) on the bottom has catch for mounting bayonet and front swing swivel for weapon sling. Single fire 5,56 mm x 45 NATO Pioneer Arms Corp. M16A4 will be available for civilian sales in 4Q2017. It is predicted to produce version for .22LR rimfire ammunition. www.fragoutmag.com
