Since 1996, separating bands in Ammunition Case were removed. All Covers, Water Canteen had drainage hole in the bottom LC-1 Cover, Water Canteen (1975-1976) OG106 LC-2 Cover, Water Canteen (1976-1991) sequently, an amendment to MIL-S-43829 was made on 8 August 1977. It was actually the only major change in the design. In the 1980's, a new 1" webbing was introduced. It had a different weave (for improved rigidity), but the change was apparently included in all the parts of the USGI equip- ment. In 1991 the OG106 and OD7 colors were changed to CG483. In practice, the OD7 webbing was still in use until about 1994-95, but the nylon fabric itself was quickly changed. There was also a Commercial Item Description A-A-55177A introduced on 3 March 1993. It changed the name of the suspenders from LC-1 to LC-2, despite the lack of any changes in the design. MIL-S-43892B was dismissed on 2 May 1996. Since that date, only the CID has been used. The last contract for suspenders (SPM1C1-07-D-F041-0006) was awarded on 3 July 2008, while the last new suspenders were supplied on 3 November 2009. Case, Small Arms Ammunition First ALICE magazine pouch, the Case Small Arms Ammu- nition 30-round Magazine (M-16 Rifle) M1972 was standardized on 24 September 1972 under FSN 8465-001-6482. It was described in MIL-C-43827. At the beginning of the 1970's, 30 round magazines were issued but, paradoxically, the production of proper pouches was still insufficient. New magazines produced at a great scale re- placed the 20-round ones at the turn of the 1970's and the 1980's, but the demand for mag pouches was still high. That is why it was one of the earliest parts of ALICE ordered. In 1973, some pouches marked M1972 were produced. They were the first elements of the new LBE. It should be highlighted that in 1971USMC received several sets of LINCLOE equipment for trails. They included magazine pouches that were very similar to the final model, but with internal separation flaps. Although the US Army rejected that version because the ac- cess to magazines was inconvenient, the USMC them as "Limited Procurement" and standardized on 31 January 1972 under FSN 8465-464-2084. However, you must remember that the equipment was solely used by USMC and produced for a short time, before AL- ICE was launched. Although some references may point it out, such pouches cannot be referred as an early ALICE pouches. ALICE magazine pouches could hold three 30-round magazines and two grenades in the side holders secured with a webbing strap and a snap. The body of pouch was made of thick, OG106 12.5 oz. ny- lon. The front and the rear walls were reinforced with polyethyl- ene inserts. Pouch was fastened with a characteristic black plastic buckle already used in the LLCE magazine pouches, e-tool case, and the 2qt water bladder cover. Inside the main compartment, there were three narrow nylon straps to separate the magazines. On the back there was a 2.25" webbing for two belt-strap keepers with equipment
