FN Five-seveN Mk2 is is a semi-automatic delayed blowback pistol chambered for FN's 5.7×28mm ammunition. The pistol has a concealed hammer and SA trigger Cold hammer-forged steel barrel with twist ratio 1:9 and chamber are chrome-lined for higher durability. Thing that draws attention is exit hole diameter, it looks more like air-gun rather than barrel of firearm able to penetrate bulletproof vests. Very characteristic is use of many polymer elements - except barrel, springs and steel screws there is single piece slide but it is covered by polymer coating so whole handgun looks like plastic toy gun or weapon from sci-fi movie. On the left side of the slide there is firing pin indicator. Flared pistol grip is covered in dense checkered pattern that enhances the grip. There are safety lever switches on both sides, but slide release lever is only on the left of the slide. Magazine release button is on the left side where trigger guard meets the grip ,but it is possible to change it to the other side. Steel sights consist of pronounced front sight and adjustable rear sight with white dots. Pistol is feed by hi-capacity 20 rounds magazines (on the USA market there are 10 rounds magazine with epoxy limiter also available). Magazine floor plate was profiled in such a way that hand resting on the grip in the down part is resting on it. In different versions Five-seveN was adopted by many military and police special units, mostly together P90 but for example in USA is popular among state and local police formations. BANGING First meeting face to face with FN Five-seveN Mk2 may surprise – it is almost plastic toy gun with small "pipe" that looks like airsoft. Appearances are deceptive. It is pretty big firearm (manufacturer never take compact version into consideration) and it will be hard as conceal carry gun but there are no impossible things – there are some rumors about those guys who carry Desert Eagle for self-defense… Many rounds in two stack magazine set this firearm as tremendous service weapon when have to fire back in case of gunfight (additionally, very effective ammunition with high penetration). This is also reason why grip is pretty wide and people with small hands may have problem with operation that firearm (luckily safety lever wings were placed right above the trigger so access is very easy). One thing that you have to get used to is typical American fantasy, and that is magazine safety so without inserted magazine we cannot take shot. Safety control shot, sorry not this time. Trigger work very nicely – has noticeable resistance, relatively short distance and distinctive breaking point that can be characterized as glass rod. Reset is short and well perceptible with clear click. Reloading is easy, and work of mechanism itself is flawless. People with big and medium hand consider this weapon as comfortable. Manipulators are placed ergonomically and using them despite small sizes is easy. Loading the magazine is easy as the spring does not resist too much. Firing Five-seveN Mk2 is surprisingly jolly – recoil and muzzle rise and barely noticeable, so firing quick doubles is not hard. During our shooting we used 40 grain FMJ Federal American Eagle rounds. Flat bullet flight path provide high accuracy. Sights are clear but very high so it requires a little time to get used to them. Effect on the shooter is minimal, basically fell like firing .22. Polymer coating with checkered pattern makes it very handy and stable. Definitely very nice weapon to play but big disadvantage is small availability and price of firearm itself and ammunition. CONCLUSION FN Five-seveN Mk2 comes in two variants – solid Black and Black with Flat Dark Earth frame. Pistol comes in plastic box along with three 20 rounds magazines (!). Unfortunately, because of decision from Fabrique Nationale, Five-seveN pistols (as well as P90 or SCAR rifles) are not available for European civilian shooters – only way to purchase one is import from USA. Unfortunately, purchase process is very time-consuming and very expensive, so in case of individual import – totally doesn't pay. Another problem is getting ammunition – despite there are European producers of 5.7x28, it easier to import from the USA. Luckily there are companies that poses pearls such "5-7" and proper ammunition to offer. www.fragoutmag.com
