The cost is wind resistance. Lack of hood wasn't really a problem for me, I don't feel necessity to have hood in every jacket. Well, Ultra Jacket is not suited for use in windy environment. Strong wind will penetrate the sides and arms. It's not waterproof, so in heavy rain it will soak up. Elastic hem worked for me. I have pretty broad hips, so jackets fits me snugly and I really like lack of any dan- gling cords. The size of elastic cu•s is just enough to fit over the watch. Not to tights, not to loose. Just right. Unfortunately, Ultra Jacket does not come with any com- pression bag. It might be stored in its own chest pocket; it is really painful but can be done. You could pack it easi- er to the side pockets, but in chest pocket there is a strap to keep the zipper closed and zipper pull can be reversed for easier use. Jacket stashed in the pocket might serve as tiny pillow (it is smaller than M249 100 round ammo box). The Jacket weight is close to nothing, so you can use it as backup and store it in the backpack or bag. Outershell fabric is DWR coated, so water beads on the surface and does not sink in. Remember, it just weather- proofed and not waterproofed. Fabric coating works also a stain repellent, so you don't have to wash it too often. Carinthia G-loft Ultra Jacket is very universal piece of clothing, of course it has some limitations, but it is all due the minimalistic approach. www.fragoutmag.com
