warheads – a poor beyond-armor effect. This is so because the shaped charge jet may – and does – reach and maintain a great velocity even after penetrating the armor, and as the round weighs little, the explosion blast remains "outside the armor". As a result, unless the ammunition ignites inside the hit vehicle, only the crew member standing on the route of the residual shaped charge jet dies. Other crew members will probably survive the incident without major damage, especially if they're wearing anti-shrapnel vests and helmets and if the vehicle features anti-shrapnel paneling. This deficiency is absent from HEAT 551C RS, which can – and does – pierce through only 400 mm RHA, but once it makes it through, it turns the inside of the target into flying pieces. It's a very good type of ammunition, especially to combat armored personnel carriers and IFVs. w Ä HEAT 655 CS is an attempt to deal with one of the biggest faults of recoilless rifles – the trouble with using them in confined spaces. Multi-purpose ammo: Ä MT 756 (Multi Target) is a typical "Bunker Buster", where a sizable precursor knocks out a hole in the wall of a light bunker or build- ing, and the primary warhead penetrates inside and then explodes; Ä ASM 509 (Anti Structure Munition) is a typical high-explo- sive projectile with a time-set fuse (instant or delayed effect), with an enlarged warhead. It is designed for combat in urbanized areas or to de- stroy light field fortifications; Ä HEDP 502 (High Explosive Dual Purpose) is a light round with a high-explosive projectile able to destroy also light vehicles. It fea- tures an aluminum shaped charge liner to enhance the post-penetration effect in the hit armored vehicles; Ä HE 441D is a high-explosive projectile, where the distance setting ring can be used to 'program' the explosion mid-air, e.g. above a trench or embankments. It can also work like a typical HE. Its warhead carries a sizable load of steel balls between the body of the projectile and the charge, which makes it an effective shrapnel solution at the same time; ÄADM 401 (Area Defence Munition) is a typical canister con- taining 1,100 flechettes released from the disintegrated round after it exits the barrel. The firing range is not big, but the broad stream of flying metal elements combined with the significant quantity thereof make this munition good for defense purposes or suitable to sweep through thick vegetation.
