KEL-TEC KSG 12 ga Kel-Tec KSG shotgun was developed by Kel-Tec from Cocoa, Florida and was unveiled during the SHOT Show 2011. The futuristic design of this bull-pup shotgun really catches an eye. Engineers opted for bull-pup layout because they wanted to create weapon with maximum ma- gazine capacity and very compact size. The KSG is 663 mm long and features 18.5" barrel. Mossberg 590 with 18.5" bar- rel is 1000 mm long and has six rounds in the magazine (+1 in chamber). KSG has dozen 12/76 shells or even up to 14 12/70 shells. This is a lot of firepower plus you can load each magazine with different types of rounds. Until KSG-25 appe- ared, there was only one shotgun comparable to KSG: Stan- dard Manufacturing DP-12 with two magazines (7 12/70 or 6 12/76 rounds each). But this was a twin-barrel shotgun! DESIGN Kel-Tec KSG is single-shot pump-action bull-pup shotgun. Main part of the Kel-Tec KSG is the receiver (actually this black part on the rear) acting also as chassis, stock made from Zytel fiber-glass reinforced nylon. Zytel is lightweight and very durable. The complete chasis of the KSG is built from three main parts, each build from two halves screwed together. The sliding forend is also made from plastic. The forend is connected to the bolt by dual operating bars. 470 mm long barrel is chambered for both 12/76 and 12/70 shells. The ammunition feed is from two independent tubular maga- zines, located below the barrel. User can manually choose ammunition source with lever located on the front of ejec- tion port. This allows to load magazines with different types of rounds, depending on mission profile or training scenario. The lever must be switched manually as it won't switch ma- gazine after last round. There is also a middle position of the switch that blocks the feed from both magazines and allows the user to chamber a single round manually. On the rear of the gun there is a butt pad with rubber shock absorber and canted loop for sling attachment. Just over the barrel there is a Picatinny rail for electrooptics and there is additional rail on the forend. The KSG comes without any iron sights. The pistol grip is located in the true center of gravity of the gun. Weapon is well-balanced and easy to handle or operate. Just above the trigger guard there is a simple safety switch which is fully ambidextrous cross-bolt style. When gun is hot, the red „F" letter will be visible on the right. When white "S" is visible on the left, it means the gun is sage. There is also an action bar lock in the front of trigger guard. www.fragoutmag.com
