The vessel's christener was Krystyna Patz, the wife of rear-admiral Jerzy Patz – a distinguished officer of the Polish Navy, the commander of the previous Albatros vessel in the years 1980-1982. Project 258 vessels are designed to detect naval mines using own sensors and unmanned underwater vehicles. Any dangerous objects identified in such a way can be destroyed by the said UAVs or by mine divers. It is expec- ted that like in the case of the 206FM vessels, the new units will be operated both as part of the Polish Navy's naval forces and as part of NATO's standing mine coun- termeasures forces. A distinctive feature of these vessels is their hull made of anti-magnetic steel which minimizes the risk of de- tonation of mines with magnetic fuzes, an unusual drive system (cycolidal thrusters instead of traditional power screws), and a set of highly advanced surveillance and combat management systems. The vessel's displacement amounts to 830 tons, and its length is 58.5 meter. The unit carries a crew of 45. NAVY
