On that unlucky day, flight PS752 was one of the first to take off from the capital city of Iran. Between 0000 and 0200 UTC, six airliners took off, according to the departure schedule. They were headed to Istanbul, Vienna, Moscow, and Doha. 0209 UTC: Qatar Airways Boeing 777 takes off. Destination: Hong Kong. PS752 was the next flight, waiting for departure. According to data publicized by Flightradar, all aircraft were following the very same route after the take-off, apart from 2 cases. The radio comms were lost a few minutes after the take-off. Videoclips showing a falling fireball got quickly disseminated across the social media platforms. The Iranian authorities have made an initial announcement that even though the crew did not report any problems, the disaster could have been caused by a technical fault. However, this has quickly evoked a lot of doubts among aviation journalists and experts. They tied the disaster to other events in the region. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards undertook retaliatory actions that night, for the death of the Qasem Soleimani who was killed by the Americans on January 3rd in Baghdad.
