TRUE MYTH TRUE MYTH Regular rinsing of the nose with saline solution prevents COVID-19 infection There is no evidence that rinsing the nose with a saline solution could protect one from SARS-CoV-2 infection. There is some scarce data available suggesting that regular rinsing of the nose with the saline solution could help one in regenerating the mucous membrane in the nose after going through a common cold. It does not prevent respiratory infections. SARS-CoV-2 causes more serious infections in older persons, than in the case of young patients. Even though a person at any age could be infected with the new co- ronavirus, the elderly persons and persons with pre-existing con- ditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease) are more prone to suffer from severe forms of COVID-19. Ordering or buying products shipped from China heightens the probability of infection. The researchers examine the SARS-CoV-2 continuously, to learn more about how one can get infected. Viruses as such do not exhibit activity on surfaces over longer periods. Hence, it is not probable that one could be infected with SARS-CoV-2, through contact with a parcel that was being transported throughout a couple of days or weeks. TRUE MYTH TRUE MYTH SARS-CoV-2 has been created or manufactured by people on purpose, at a secret laboratory of some sort The viruses could change as time goes by, thanks to spontaneous mutations. Sometimes a disease may spread when a virus common in animals, such as bats, changes and is transmitted to people, then acquires the capacity to infect people, even though that virus had no properties as such before. This is the most probable way in which the novel coronavirus was formed - being transmitted from bats, via pangolins, to people. www.fragoutmag.com
