The sport rifle in basic con- figuration comes with a 16" barrel without bayonet lug and with removable muzzle device. The military rifle has a bayonet lug and a permanently attached muzzle device. Honestly, for most shooters, the 16-inch barrel is about 4 inches too much and for this barrel length, the stan- dard handguard is way too short. The optimum for this kind of firearm is 12". The military short barrel is 10" long, yes there is a half inch difference. The reason is that the military barrel qualifica- tions and tests weren't completed yet and the compa- ny didn't want to wait. Fabryka Broni decided to launch a 10.5" barrel for the commercial market and export rifles. The new short barrel is essentially the same. 267 mm long, six grooves, 1:9 twist and ½-28 thread for remova- ble muzzle device which can be easily replaced with com- mercially available muzzle brakes, etc. The barrel is fluted for improved rigidity and increased cooling surface. It will heat up quicker but also cool downs way faster.
