were now located parallelly to the sight front window. XPS2/XPS3 were more compact and left more room on the top-rails, allowing to have HWS and G.33 magnifi- er combo placed on even shorter rifles and SMGs. Both XPS2/XPS3 have integrated Picatinny rail mount with screw on the side. Three years later, EOTech decided to launch an enhanced version of the XPS, called Extreme XPS (or EXPS in short). The concept of the short-body sight was the same but the controls were moved to the left side of the HWS for better ergonomics when magni- fier or night vision device is used. User does not have to move away the magnifier to change the illumination set- ting. The screw mount was replaced with a quick-detach mount with a single lever cleverly placed on the side. The EXPS3 was also adopted by USSOCOM under SU-231A/ PEQ designation as a part of M4A1 SOPMOD Block II up- grade kit. The XPS and EXPS sights are available with multiple types of reticles: Ä-0: 68 MOA ring with vertical and horizontal sta- dia and a 1 MOA aiming dot Ä-1: 1 MOA dot only Ä-2: 68 MOA ring with vertical and horizontal sta- dia and two 1 MOA aiming dots (there is also XPS2- 300 specifically for .300 BLK rounds) Ä-4: 68 MOA ring with vertical and horizontal sta- dia and two 4 MOA aiming dots There are also reticles for the M240 machine gun, 40 mm FN303 grenade launcher and 37 mm Sage non-le- thal launcher available. There used to be a biohazard sign shaped reticle in the limited Zombie slayer edi- tion of HWS too. THERMAL DRIFT I am sure that these two words still make EOTech reps blood run cold. It all started in September 2015 when SOCOM re- ported two huge problems with EOTech's Enhanced Combat Optical Sights (ECOS): SU-231/PEQ (553), SU-231A/PEQ (EXPS3), SU-231D/PEQ i SU-253/PEQ, SU-264/PEQ (Mk56 HCSWS). The thermal drift effect was the main issue. When www.fragoutmag.com
