Well, K-series are not exactly the folding knives as we all know since they are not just the knives! The Leatherman folding knives have some additional tools from T-series and P-series packed. DESIGN Leatherman K-series are 11.5 cm (4.5") long folding knives with 8 cm (3.3") blades. They all share the same design concept: aircraft aluminum scales with 420HC stainless steel blades and tools sandwiched in between. The main difference between K-series is the fact that versions with X-suffix have scales in natural aluminum color and the ones without X have the grey scales. All scales have a thumb ramp in the upper front for better grip. The pocket clip is screwed to the scales (same clip might be found in P2, P4 and T4) and might be placed on the right or the left side. In the rear part of the scales there is a loop for a dummy cord or key chain to secure the knife from getting lost or stolen. Scales are permanently riveted to the internal steel frame where blades and other tools are fixed too. Another difference between X and non-X variants is the blade. The K2X and K4X have serrated edge blades and K2 and K4 fea- ture the plain blade. Both blades are sheepfoot-style and have proprietary back lock (lock is short and placed only in the front, near the blade axis, and has ambidextrous latch). The blade has a thumb-loop for one hand operations. When folded, the blade protrudes around 10 mm (0.5") above the body. K2 and K2X have magnetic looking tools as P2 and P4. As already mentioned, these tools are the same as in P-series and T-series tools and are opened and closed in the very same way. When closed, tools are magnetic locked to prevent accidental opening. All tools have a back lock. The magnet resistance might be easily broken with a thumb. Leatherman K2 and K2X feature following tools: Ä 420HC Knife Ä Pry Tool Ä Package Opener Ä Awl Ä Bottle Opener Ä Phillips Screwdriver Ä Medium Screwdriver Ä Extra-small Screwdriver The K4 and K4X also have small scissors (as in the P4). The difference between K2s and K4s is increased thickness (16 mm vs. 18 mm) and weight (138.9 grams vs. 155.9 grams). www.fragoutmag.com
