Just after the in- formation about the 13" barrel of MWS-25 was re- leased to the pub- lic, some people started questioning the reason for such a short barrel in rifles fed from powerful rounds. Well, if you don't know why, it is prob- ably not for you. Some users, espe- cially working in urban areas might require a portable rifle but without sacrificing the firepower. Com- pact-sized MWS with folded stock might fit such a role perfectly. Under the front part of the upper receiver there is a lightweight air- craft aluminium handguard with M-LOK attachment slots on the sides and bottom. The M-LOK is cur- r e n t l y an indus- try stan- dard but Z M T may of- fer hand- g u a r d s with older KeyMod slots. Handguard also has a series of holes in the bottom part to shave off some weight and to increase the air circu- lation for faster cooling. Their shape follows the shape of the ZMT logo. They also look kind of cool. Other changes included relocation of the rare QD sling mount and re- shaped case deflector. Last important improvement, crucial if ZMT considers the serial production, is the fact that dura- bility and lifespan of the rifle was increased to meet military specifi- cations. During the August 2020 demo we had a chance to play a bit with the 13'' MWS-25. Hitting the targets 500 meters away with such a short barrel wasn't a problem at all. The rifles were dialed in already but the extremely hot weather and mirag- es weren't helpful. We are closely monitoring the MWS program and we are keeping fingers crossed for the guys behind the files. We hope that soon rifles will be available commercially. www.fragoutmag.com
