Obviously, the procedures related to preparatory steps that need to be taken before shooting (assuming a firing posi- tion for instance) could be taught using dummy, training equipment. Nonetheless, dummy weapons would not really be useful in teaching the user to aim properly. On the other hand, an electronic trainer device would make it possible to train ATGM crews. However, still, a system as such would not allow for conducting the actual training required to pre- pare the user for launching the missile. Using the live weap- ons for training may be a bad idea - they would be exposed to wear and tear, and, secondly, safety-wise - they may be quite troublesome. It is not difficult to imagine a situation when a live Spike ATGM is launched during a training ses- sion at a garrison training facility. Let us focus on disposable anti-tank grenade launchers. The training inert weapon can be efficiently used to teach the usage procedures. Nonetheless, aiming and proper alignment of the sight both remain beyond the capability of a training unit as such. Obviously, inert warhead grenade launchers are available as well. The range requirements for systems as such are not so restrictive, as in case of live munitions. Despite the above, it is not possible to launch inert warheads at a rifle-dedicated shooting range. What is more, the price difference between the live launcher and the inert one is insignificant - the training is still expensive, or very expensive. Barrel insert devices could be a solution here. They would make it possible for the user to learn how to use the sight. However, in most cases, the inserts make it impossible to learn how to handle the launcher and prepare it for the shot, or they impair the process, forcing the user to execute ac- tions that would be either non-existent in the live weapon RPG-75 CV: Training launchers www.fragoutmag.com
