DEFTAR SAFETY ASSEMBLIES The DEFTAR also offers com- plete safety switch assemblies for AR rifles. They are available with 90 degree, 45 degree or 45/60 degree throws. The 90 degree one is stan- dard safety switch with aluminium levers and steel pin and fits AR low- er receivers without any modifica- tion. It is precisely made and really rugged. The click between safety on and off i s very crisp and tactile. The 45 degree throw switch changes the throw for improved use with your thumb (in the stan- dard safety it seems that switching with the index finger is more com- fortable). It requires some train- ing but it is really convenient. The shorter throw has one disadvan- tage unfortunately, it is far more easier to unintentionally deacti- vate the safety during long gun/ handgun transitions so we would recommend it more for compe- tition shooting than the tactical use. Maybe increasing the tension in the switch would decrease the problem. Our "top of the top" is the 45/60 degree throw switch which axis has two undercuts for locking mechanism. Shooters can choose the throw during installation – the axis is ambidextrous. After a cou- ple of visits to the shooting ranger I've decided to choose the 60 de- gree throw. I can easily operate the switch with a thumb but the safety won't change it position uninten- tionally as in the 45 degree throw. Since I use the gun more in tacti- cal shooting than in competition so this throw was less reliable for me. Switches are anodized in Black, Red, Blue and Yellow.
