SF Super High Cut Helmet The shell of the SF Super High Cut is made of the latest super-lightweight composite consisting of UHMWPE polyethylene combined with carbon fibers and aramid. It has exactly the same under-cut as the earlier MT helmets (16 mm more than legacy shell). The most important change was the weight reduction. The Large sized SF Ballistic shell is 5.58 mm thick and weights 667 grams. Complete helmet (depending on the type of internal suspension systems) is 1019-1089 grams. Just for compar- ison, the MT shell was 788 grams (1148 grams complete helmet) and the legacy XP shell was 815 grams (1225 grams). It is significantly lighter than the previous models without sacrificing the ballistic performance. Officially it is "just" 8 per cent but during the use you will actually feel the difference. The ballistic performance of the FAST SF meets and exceeds requirements of the FTHS. It is rated to withstand 9 mm FMJ bullet (365 m/s velocity) and shrapnels (2 grain fragments up to 1280 m/s). Please see the tabIes for more details. The Super High Cut Helmet will also resist crushing, compression and extreme temperatures from -51C to +71C. SF Carbon Composite Helmett The SF Carbon Composite helmet is a non-ballistic variant of the SF Helmet and a direct replacement of the older FAST Carbon helmet. The main difference is the change of the shell (it has the 16 mm higher undercut) and the new composite for the shell (carbon & polyethylene). The shell is vented – it has eight slits in the upper part which increase the airflow. The weight of a complete non-ballistic helmet in Large is 679-771 grams (depending on the internals). The shell is just 334 grams. The SF Carbon Composite helmet is the base of the FTHS Coxswain system. When ballistic protection is required, the two-part FAST Low Profile Ballistic Applique (or LPBA) must be added. It is attached to the Velcro loops on the shell and to the slots below the side rails. The LPBA provides the same ballistic rating as the SF Super High Cut Helmets. Internals Ops-Core SF helmets come with the latest Vented Lux Liner system (available also a retrofit for older helmets) which is a three-part system. The main com- ponent is the shock-mitigation EPP impact liner directly attached to the inner side of the shell. The impact liner has vents that improve the air flow. Another part of suspension are the small adjustable cushion pads with foamy inside and soft quick-drying outer fabric. The pads are attached to the Velcro hooks on the impact liner. Pads come in two different thicknesses and are fully ad- justable for individual comfort.Chinstraps are available in three variants. The SOCOM FTHS helmets come with the well known four-point chinstrap and the Occ-Dial retention headband with large polymer adjustment buckle on the nape pad. The second variant comes with the Wormdial headband where the fitband has a lower profile. The simplest variant has just the four-point chin straps with the H-shaped neck pad. With the Vented Lux Liner Wormdial kit, the Large helmet is 1046 grams. www.fragoutmag.com
