and FTHS Coxswain. The requirements for the
FTHS Ground part were standard Ballistic and
Non-Ballistic helmets package but for the Cox-
swain, meant for maritime use, SOCOM was
looking for the hybrid solution. The base was
non-ballistic bump helmet with optional ballis-
tic applique and array of additional accessories
such as visor, side rails, night vision shroud and
ballistic and non-ballistic mandibles. The FTHS
helmets had to be compatible with 3M/Peltor
Comtac headsets, gas masks and other compo-
nents already fielded. The value of the 5-years
FTHS Ground contract was estimated for 95M
USD.
In 2019, USSOCOM announced that the contract
will be awarded for the Gentex Corp. (owner of
Ops-Core brand) and the new FTHS Ground system
will be the latest Ops-Core SF Helmets together
with the Ops-Core AMP headsets (check the Frag
Out! Magazine #32 for story about AMPs).
