could be easily adopted to produce new systems and ammuni- tion. SIG Sauer NGSW-R (also known as MCX-SPEAR and earlier as MCX-MR) is based on the successful design of MCX assault rifle with some additional tweaks required in NGSW. SIG advertises its product as a well-known AR-15 platform perfectly known by soldiers with improved ergonomics. The rifle has doubled charg- ing handles (AR-15 style one and additional side handle), bolt catch and magazine release buttons. The SIG Sauer NGSW-AR proposal is belt-fed and based on their .338 Norma Magnum MG338 machine gun. The recoil reduction system of NGSW-R and NGSW-AR was patented in 2019 and it was implemented for the first time in the .338 Norma Magnum MG338 machine gun purchased in 2020 by USSOCOM. The system is based on recoil springs with hy- draulic buffers which absorbs the energy of the bolt in the peak phase of recoil. As in the GD-OTS rifles, the SIG NGSW-R is a hybrid gas and recoil operated gun. Based on the available information, the current version of the MCX-SPEAR has significantly higher recoil than Textron or GD- OTS proposals, especially in fully automatic. It seems that even experienced shooters have problems with controllability. Another similarity between SIG Sauer and GD-OTS products is the use of technologically advanced 3D printed next-gen SLX suppressors. In theory, these new devices should effectively de- crease sound, visual and thermal signature when compared to the conventional ones. 53 www.fragoutmag.com SMALL ARMS
