New assault rifle
from Poland
T
he MWS-15 is a little broth-
er of earlier .308 MWS-25
and .338 MWS-38 semi-au-
tomatic battle rifles/DMR rifles
developed by the engineers from
Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów
(Tarnów Metalworks, ZM Tarnów
or ZMT in short) defense industry
company from Poland, known ear-
lier from their proprietary bull-pup
sniper rifles.
T
he MWS-15, currently cham-
bered in 5.56x45 NATO and
.300 Blackout (and probably
other calibers soon) is essentially
a scaled-down MWS-25. The de-
signers firstly developed a full-
size battle rifle (as a potential
replacement of the Soviet-design
SVD sniper rifles in Polish Armed
Forces) in both rifle rounds vari-
ants and after successful tests ul-
timately decided to scale it down
for intermediate rounds. According
to officially available data, 74% of
parts are interchangeable between
MWS-15 and MWS-25. The other
parts are similar in the shapes but
obviously smaller hence propri-
etary to assault rifle.
