unfolding drama.
I went to Ukraine with a
humanitarian aid convoy organized
by the „Otwarty Dialog" [Open
Dialogue] Foundation. Kyiv was only
a stop, along the way to Bakhmut.
We had no chance to look around. I
do know Kyiv quite well - from our
previous trips when I did reporting
on the fights in Donbas. Kyiv usually
was the first stop. Back then, it was
really hard to find any symptoms of
the war whatsoever. Nowadays,
things have become different. The
Alpha hotel in the very heart of the
city is a good example - it was hit by
a Kamikaze UAV on New Year's Eve.
Reportedly one of the Shakhid-136,
procured by Russia in Iran (officially
referred to as Geran-2, reportedly
manufactured in Russia; The
Russians are ashamed of the
fact they are forced to procure
weapons from Iran). The UAV hit
the corner of the building, tearing
off a part of the facade. Luckily,
nobody was hurt, and the building
can be restored. The results of the
explosion similar to a simple collapse
can help in maintaining the illusion
that everything's normal. Until the
night falls.
