A3 is said to be lighter than the A2 by approx. 300 grams - this may not seem like much, but keep in mind that the EOTech EXPS 3-0 HWS issued with GROT rifles in some of the units is 317 g. One of main changes is the finish of some of the parts - in 30 of them (e.g., the bolt carrier, chamber, gas regulator, charging handle, parts trigger group) the coating was changed to Tenifer which increases hardness and abrasion resistance, as well as corrosion resistance.
