HoldING THE RIFlE
The way to hold the weapon has evolved over the years, the
techniques are ever changing, plus the foregrip has mul-
tiplied the support hand holding choices. The classic hold,
where the support hand just supports the hanguard from
below and one keeps his elbow low, gave way to a modern
one, when the handguard is kept from the side with thumb
lying over the barrel. That was a very good innovation,
which strengthens the hold and allows to better stabilize
the rifle, helps to counter the oblique muzzle jump. But of
course everybody has to decide for himself what's good,
easy and practical. There are gazillion companies out there
waiting with incalculable number of gadgets to make one's
life easier – and his wallet less of a burden.
SHooTING STANCES
Modern shooting stance is fully adaptable to situation
and terrain. The times where one always fired a rifle with
support leg extended forward are dead and gone. Time-
honored prone on one's belly is also not enough. Now you
have to be able to shoot laying prone at an angle of 45°
forward, or lying on the side, right or left – as well as lying
on one's back. One would limit yourself mercilessly not
being able to shoot kneeling over a low barricade, sitting
with rifle stabilized or using the sling to support the rifle.
