Before The MP7 They were using The classic sMgs
or carBine Versions of Their arMies' assaulT rifles.
The real SMGs (those firing pistol rounds) suffered from two main disadvantages: insufficient range and lack of body armor piercing
capability, which started to be popular in mid-1990s. The carbines were capable to shoot through the body armor, but were still large
and heavy enough to be cumbersome for troops that were not riflemen by definition. Plus – they paid for their reduced size with hefty
recoil and muzzle flash because of the shorter barrel.
