Thus a need was established for a new weapon, light, compact, with hi-cap magazines, easy for fast use and chambered for
ammunition effective up to 200 meters – against targets protected by light body armor. And these were guidelines which
spawned both the 4.6 mm x 30 ammunition and the weapon to chamber it, presented in 1999 as HK PDW or PDW2000,
renamed to HK MP7 as of 2001. A modified version called MP7A1 was presented in 2004, and further modified HK MP7A2
followed in 2014.
