A procedures of the escalation of force are clearly précised in every company involved in providing the maritime security of the commercial vessels. Despite certain differences in the detailed procedures there are common guidelines which constitute a core of the behavior rules in the case of the potential pirate attack. However, before we describe reactions to the pirate attack depending on their behavior, let us discuss a reporting line on the ship which is significant to understand a chain of commands in the maritime security. The FirsT AFTer The God And subsequenT ones A captain is always the most important link in the chain of commands in the case of the legal use of force in order to repel a thread posed by the pirates. It is him according to the maritime law is responsible for the whole crew and a ship entrusted to him.
