In this group there are two boots designed for operations in mountain regions where due the heavier loads and rough terrain, more stability and protections for the ankles, good traction and long-lasting comfort while maintaining a low weight are required. A natural choice of base model was the Salomon QUEST 4D GTX model – an outstanding lightweight trekking boots which is at the same time one of the most popular footwear of choice by SOF operators. For the SALOMON FORCES tactical line-up two variants of these boots were developed: the QUEST 4D GTX FORCES with the Gore-Tex Extended Comfort membrane and the QUEST 4D FORCES without membrane which are more suitable for various weather conditions, especially in warmer climates. There was no QUEST 4D without Gore-tex in outdoor boots collection. The QUEST 4D uppers are made from nubuck leather joined with the nylon fabric. Upper is bonded with a sole by a strong adhesive. The whole upper is joined with 4D Chassiss platform, which ensures good stability and amortisation. The most significant modification was a total change in the lacing system which in the trekking boot was based on the metal alloy eyelets and hooks. The hooks might cause entanglement of the parachute lines during the jump what might lead to the parachute death so were the first removed part and the eyelets are now made out of leather and the hooks were replaced with closed metal-alloy loops. The rest – adjusting sole and other parts to the colour scheme of the boot – were just a formality. Both variants QUEST 4D FORCES are available in black and Navajo. S ALOMON QUEST 4D GTX – one of the most popular models bought by special forces! www.fragoutmag.com
