M2 Helmet. M2 is airborne version of standard GI M1 steel combat helmet.
It consists of steel shell and liner. The pictured helmet has spades painted on the
sides – spades were unofficial symbol of 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Apart
from their colleagues from other units, the medics from 101st Airborne did not have
red crosses painted on the helmets.
