CKD-1 in use Throughout a few weeks we used the CKD-1 and therefore we can share our feedback with our readers. Certainly, we remember that is it still a prototype so some issues will be modified in this day sight. We also hope that PCO will make use of our comments. The CKD-1 rugged and quite compact design. It is made of quality materials and makes an impression of a damage-proof device. Its front lens has protective flap and honeycomb comb flash filter. The lens of the micro sight is not covered so there might be some small reflections on it but from tactical point of view it won't be a problem at all. While a flash cover is a very good solution which reduces reflections practically to zero (to the marginal extend influences an "exposition" – an image brightness), a protective lens flip opened upwards – is a poor one. Its opening causes that when manipulating with a weapon (even not with a sight) it closes independently what during test was – to put it mildly – irritating. It would seem that it is enough to turn the entire adapter by 180 degrees to solve a problem. Unfortunately, it is not a solution. The adapter has a setting excision which protects it against turning that makes it impossible to attach it in other position… The second, symmetrical excision could solve this problem. The sight can be quickly installed without any tools. Two rail grabbers keep sight very stable, there are no backlashes. As it also results from our, sight holds zero, small deflections can be ascribed to ammunition/weapons/weather conditions. One thing that is missed is an interlock of the assembly leverages. Well, on the internal side of the framework is a hole which would allow for threading a tie-wrap, but designers had rather a different idea. During a shooting class, when a lot of drills required a transitions from the strong to support hand or transitions from rifle to pistol, it happened a few times that mount - the rail grabbers – were unintentionally released. Maybe they were hooked by a slings or other elements of combat gear. Nevertheless, this piece of sight should be radically improved as losing the sight during combat is not an option. www.fragoutmag.com
