throughout six days i did not meet anybody, i did not wash for six days, six days i walk in the continuous stress, alone, on the large desert. six days of controlling my grids on gPs and a map. A larger deviation towards a march direction and not checking a route on the map is as- sociated with adding to your route from a few to several kilometres per day. the spaces were so large that a direction of my walk had to be adjusted precisely. the north and central part were the most interest- ing for me, a loneliness, a fight with nature, relying only on yourself and own preparation. A real survival. i among volcanic rocks, glaciers, volcanos, and additionally hurri- cane wind, rivers. something beau- tiful! now, i will walk along a more pub- lic "road" f26 to landmanalaugar – a cosmic landscape with hot sourc- es. my loneliness ended at this stage. now, i will become a "tourist attraction". A storm warning, 42 km and an evacuation. leaving the nyidalur region, a ranger (a park ranger of vatnajökull national Park) warned me against strong wind and coming storm which will include the whole sea- shore, and its effects will be notice- able even in the middle part of the country. As it was described by the icelander wind had not blown so strongly yet. tailwind, intermittent rainfalls. i de- cided to set out along the route f26 for the next cottage within 50km from a place when i just was. the first hours were quite normal, i cannot describe them as pleas- ant, but just normal. rain fell from the technical jacket simultaneous- ly soaking trousers. their rear part, beginning from the legs up to a waist downwards were totally wet. strong wind impacts on the mem- brane cased slowly a headache. sky were getting cloudy, dark, navy blue. Already then i began to real- ise for what i had decided. Anoth- er hours went by. i felt enormous tiredness despite tailwind. my organism was getting cooled. i was not in the mood for taking pho- tos (in such an amount as usually). i simply went in my own direction. every now and then i drank water and ate bars hidden in the pock- et of my jacket. A lack of the sun and strong wind contributed to weakening of my organism. more- over, i had to overcome two rivers. it was not possible to jump over to the next river bank while using rocks and sticks. on the other side, when i dried my feet with already wet trousers and a towel, i watched their colour. water was icy, and wind added to them a red colour. www.fragoutmag.com
