Tilak MiG 1.0 BY: Bartosz szołucha PHOTO: Bartosz szołucha, Marcin Płassowski, tiLak At a time of large popularity of outdoor clothing, the market must satisfy the demand and, very often, the only way to lower the production costs, while keeping quality standards was to move the production to Far East. Even the leading players on the market established their facilities there. It becomes more and more difficult to find products manufactured in the USA, Europe or Canada. Although we have many old companies with tradition that pro- vide specialist high-mountain clothing, only several of them decided not to move their production to Asia. The company Tilak, a manufacturer of high- end mountain clothes, is one of such examples. It was established in 1986 in Šumperk, Czech Republic. Outside the Czech Republic, the brand is not widely-known, but its products are premium quality may be compared to, or sometimes even higher than, the more known companies. Apart from climb- ers, mountain rescue and guides also buy clothes made by Tilak. In 2012, the designers from Tilak decided, on the basis of their experience, to introduce a soft-shell set for military services that was the equivalent of USSOCOM PCU Level 5 or ECWCS III GEN Level 5, so a lightweight, water-resistant and wind- proof jacket and trousers that efficiently protect- ed against wind, as well as was highly resistant to rain or snow, as well as the fabric providing perfect air flow during physical effort. As a result, the Tilak MiG was born and it immediately gained popularity among Czech special forces opera- tors thanks to its good design, excellent material, availability, and reasonable price. In 2013, after getting in touch with very kind Tilak reps, I received set MiG softshells, so it was pos- sible to write this article.
