in contrary to common belief, IEDs were not in-
vented in the 21st century. Their history dates
back to the times of the invention of gunpow-
der. They were used in all armed conflicts, also
during the first and the second world war, in
the form of booby traps. however, the terrorists
have made the IEDs their favorite weapon, then
improved them and spread their use.
Terrorists have chosen this fighting tool for a
reason - says Grzegorz, the EOD instructor
in the Global Protection Group - IEDs used in
Afghanistan were even made out of garbage,
and often were able to compete and outrun the
modern equipment of isaf troops. in countries
not covered by the war, components for IEDs are
available for pennies in any technical or house-
hold chemicals store.
