Difficult terrain, winding road and numerous
hills seriously reduce visibility range. Then the
cars slowly drive on a low hill. When the con-
voy takes the corner, an IED suddenly explodes
in front of the first vehicle. The moment of si-
lence and orders of the commander echoes on
the radio. This "death zone" must be left im-
mediately. There is a VIP in the second vehi-
cle and his safety is the most important now.
Two cars pass the damaged vehicle, leaving
its crew and departing. Then, shots are fired
from the another hill they pass...
These are not flashbacks from Afghanistan, but
one of the exercises carried out during "Counter
Improvised Explosive Device C-IED - basic level"
training course by Global Protection Group (or GPG).
The five day training was dedicated to feel partici-
pants with fundamental knowledge, enabling them
to operate in every region of the world where IED
attacks could be a potential threat. The events that
took place in Paris or Brussels recently clearly testify
that the war against terrorism is back in Europe and
each of us can become its victim. According to these
