Many people ask at the beginning if the Project Gecko and Eli, is a right choice, if this guy is a good instructor. We must admit that he is really a good trainer – a methodical of the conducting classes, a way of passing knowledge, a respect for the other methods, and maintaining a healthy distance from himself and the world make the training, although monotonous, is still attractive. And the apple in his eye is taking care for the security reasons – in the tight rooms it is easy to hurt a buddy from team. During this edition, the weather was exceptionally not favorable for the participants - it was very hot, and asphalt melted under their feet. For those who decided to get all the proper CQB gear – plate carriers, hard plates, helmets and all the heavy stuff – it was not easy. A consumption of water and Gatorade could be counted in liters per hours. Even in such conditions entering the rooms had to be repeated many times, and despite that this theme was not exhausted. Anyway, getting back to the training methods, Eli repeated many times, that he did not give us final solutions of all problems, and only the another tool for our toolbox, that could be used, especially that certain techniques and procedures seemed … "Israeli" to us. The good old, Israeli school of room clearing probably works out, because the IDF has the greatest experience in combats in the MOUT environment. Remember in CQB there is no one proper way – it is only "the best possibility", adapted to the current situation and conditions. A final stage of the training was a shooting range, with a simple "killing house" (or rather "room" because at the beginning you should start from something smaller), where knowledge acquired during the previous two days were practiced with firearms. The entire day spent at the shooting range, which resembled rather a heated frying pan, ended up with awarding with the certificates, with the accompaniment of the thunders and longed-for rain. To sum up, the training, in particular due to the very high temperatures, was especially requiring. The first try is just for practice, so all will certainly draw the appropriate conclusions and until the next edition of the trainings with the Project Gecko and the Stronghold Group, they will be prepared much more better. And, for the time being, we are already waiting for the more advanced CQB Level 2 class. Big Thanks for Eli Feildboy from the Project Gecko and Michał Olszyca from the Stronghold Group for invitation to the class. It was a great pleasure and honor to take part in the course. We hope that our input was valuable. www.fragoutmag.com
