Neck Index
an idea of the Surefire Institute shooting instructors, Ken Good and Dave Maynard. Devised to rectify
some of the FBi technique disadvantages – the light is held against the cheek so as to light up the
sights and the target at the same time. Key problem is to hold the light so that the beam does not reflect
from the firing hand and handgun, which could blind the shooter and preclude his sighting of the gun, as
well as identification of the target.
ADVANTAGES:
Ä Works with all sizes of lights,
and all switch arrangements;
Ä Allows quick transition from FBI
to Neck Index and vice versa;
Ä Manually simple (also after transition to weak hand);
Ä Allows lighting up both target and sights at the same time;
Ä Light position independent of the shooting (shooting does not move the light source);
Ä Allows for searching/threat identification without pointing the gun;
Ä "Where I look, there I glare";
Ä Light is naturally poised for striking – if shooting is not called for;
Ä Easy to execute – even with injured hand.
