Rogers/Surefire Hold
This technique is named after the FBI Special Agent Bill rogers, who pioneered it, and the Surefire compa-
ny which adopted it. The light is held between index and middle finger, like a cigar, while the switch button
is operated with a base of the thumb (only applicable to rear-switched lights). The gun is held with both
hands, switch is activated by pushing back on the light and thus pressing the switch against the inside of the
support hand.
ADVANTAGES:
Ä With proper light carry allows a quick draw with
no corrections needed;
Ä Allows easy and practical aligning of the beam
with bore axis;
Ä Two-handed grip ensures stable gun control and
differs very little from natural shooting hold.
DISADVANTAGES:
Ä Only applicable to specific models of the lights:
have to be of small diameter, rear-switched and
ideally fitted with a special rubber ring enhancing
the grip,
Ä On shot beam displacement needs re-aligning;
Ä Complicated manually – not possible to continue
after even a slight injury to the light hand;
Ä The light source attracts shot to the shooter's
silhouette (center mass, at torso level).
