Denel Munition Assegai M2000A1 projectiles and M91 propellants as of late. What's more, there have been trials involving the use of test projectiles to verify the possibility of firing SAAB-Nexter Bonus Mk II and GIWS SMArt-155 anti- tank self-guided sub-projectiles. The Krab's loading mechanism is based on an electronic fuse setting, which makes it possible to program the time setting. The Krab gun-howitzer has three on-board computers by WB Electronics. These include: a control terminal (automatizing and accelerating the process of target locking, loading, and firing), a targeting computer (after receiving ballistic data, it images the calculated settings and controls the rotation of the turret), and commander's ballistic computer (displays the tactical situation on a digital map, performs ballistic calculations and generates firing range and positioning details). Targeting and firing processes are supported by a Weibel Scentics MVRS- 700 SCD Doppler radar mounted above the cannon yoke and used to measure the muzzle velocity. There is also an Avimo DSF-90 sights used for direct observation of targets and for shooting over open sights. Both of these devices are linked with the ballistic computer. Introduction of 155 mm artillery systems to Polish armed forces will greatly increase their combat potential, but will also offer new ways to maneuver and combat. The high mobility of Krab makes it possible to rapidly change fire positions without compromising on the readiness. According to the Polish tactical assumptions, compliant with NATO standards, a Krab unit is to be assigned an Artillery Manouver Area (AMA) where it carries out its operations. Such area needs to include: the commander's intention to combat, the tactical situation, the potential fire support, the operations to be carried out and the Target Areas of Interest (TAI), the location of the own forces, and the enemy artillery threats. An AMA requires the following to be determined: the area of the command post, the maneuvering areas of artillery battery, the area of deployment of reconnaissance elements (artillery radar, weather station) www.fragoutmag.com
