in the evening, once again, you experience serious heat that turns the air into a moisty, sticky pudding. This year was no different. Someone may say that I should have taken some other boots, with a stiffer upper or higher re- sistance to water. In my opinion, however, those are the ones that are perfect for trips to mountains like the Polish Bieszczady. The Mudman The very solid and deep protector with a lot of space for mud between the rubber cubes gives the feeling of stabil- ity. Whether we are descending or ascending, the boots will not slip on mud after the sole gets through the first layer and stands on firm ground. The structure can be compared to the construction of motocross tires or down- hill bikes that are designed to ride on deep mud. The most important thing is that when we get out of mud, we do not have the unpleasant feeling of dirty and heavy Wellingtons on our feet, since the boots get clean pretty fast. The Aquaman The bottom part of the boot, up to the ankle, is firmly re- inforced, stiffened and you could say the boot is a low-cut Wellington. However, if you notice the holes on both sides of the boot (in sailing, they are called "self-flushers"), the very prospect of crossing a river with such boots on is questionable. You could not be more wrong. On some occasions, I had to soak the boots in a river or a stream, when collecting material for my son and his friends. Of course, water got inside them immediately, but it got out just as fast. In such situations, I had two options. If I did not want to change my socks, I just kept walking. After 20 minutes, the boots would be only slightly wet. If I had some time, I just took them off, took out the inserts, and left them in the sun to dry. After about 30 minutes, they were more or less dry. I tested that solution several times and it worked well. The Walkman I walked for like several hundred kilometers with these boots on, but about 200 km were in the Bieszczady Mountains. Another pleasant surprise. The upper of Salomon Jungle Ultra is soft and flexible, fits well at the height and above the ankle because it is only thin Cordura. When the temperature becomes unbearable, you can al- ways fold back the upper and let your feet breathe a bit. When properly tied shoelaces, these boots used with thick FOOTWEAR
