in stiffness between both versions noticeable? Let me put it this way – if I had not used both of them, like "now, I will wear GTX now, later on those without it", but rather only "touch" them at some expo, I would not have noticed the difference. But the difference is there, that is for sure. The membrane. Well, after my last-year experience with Meindl Equator boots with GORE-TEX Extended Comfort ("Three musketeers in action", FRAG OUT! #13), when it came to its performance at higher tem- peratures, I was as calm as a Tibetan monk. I was not disappointed. Seriously, the membrane works even at +25°C – with higher temperatures, you will feel it in the boot, but it still will not melt your foot in your own sweat. It will be simply warmer, more or less like in the case of non-GTX Zephyrs. At lower temperatures, you do not even feel the GTX at all. Of course, at the same time the boots are completely waterproof (Cordura also has DWR, but you know how it is – sooner or later, the DWR will wear off and you will have to use a re-spray it) so you don't need to worry about dry feet during a rapid summer downpour (which are becoming more and more common in our country). At lower temperatures (let us say about –5, maybe –8°C), the boots do their job easily when it comes to thermal comfort (used with Thorlo Combat Boot Socks that I use throughout the year). Those are cool boots, I really like them for the bit high- er stiffness than in "regular" Innox Mid boots and for the membrane that, as I found out once more, works fine. Of course, not everyone will like the MultiCam, but you can always choose the plain version. www.fragoutmag.com
