The arctic white cover (NSN 8465-00-001-6478) was made of a highly water resistant cotton and nylon oxford fabric, exactly the same as used in overwhites, M65 parkas and BDU caps (see FRAG OUT! #16). In 1980s production of coverts was finished after DLA100-86-F-EA20 contract. Two another contracts were awarded in 2000's: SPO100- 00-F-EC74 and SPO100-03-F-EB26. After introduction of Battle Dress Uniforms, the Woodland and Desert camouflage pattern covers were ordered. The Woodland camouflage pattern cover (NSN: 8465-01-192-6616) was standardized on 25 October 1984 and only two contracts were awarded for Alpha Industries: DLA100-85-C-0747 and DLA100-86-C-0861. Covers were produced from standard 50/50 NYCO Twill fabric. There were no further contracts awarded because the ALICE Medium packs were already manufactured in Woodland camouflage pattern, while the ALICE Large pack was scheduled to be replaced with the IIFS pack. Six color desert camouflage (Daytime Camouflage, Desert) cover (NSN 8465-01-327-5361) was standardized on 9 November 1980. It was made of the 50/50 NYCO Twill fabric. In 1983, DLA100-83- F-CB03 contract was awarded and, after that, the production was resumed on 1 September 1990 - 15 contracts were awarded up for the purpose of the Gulf War. The final contract, DLA100-91-F-EB12, was awarded on 25 January 1991. In meantime, on 17 October 1990, three color desert camouflage cover was standardized (NSN 8465- 01-327-5361). However, production of those covers was commenced in 1994 under SPO100-95-F-EB11 contract. Final, SPO100-04-D4456, contract was completed on 1 September 2004. www.fragoutmag.com
