In the 1970s and 1980s, United States Armed Forces changed their focus
to Middle East. Since the new conflict in hot and dry climate was more
and more possible, the new concern was individual equipment dedicated
for use in that environment. The primary goal was to reduce the burden
and improve the comfort. In early stage of program, the Natick Labs
engineers hit the dead end. But the outsourced outdoor company by
former SOF veteran helped to create one of the most advanced load
bearing equipment of its era.
