that it was a conflict where the Russian army distinguished itself with frequently grotesque ineptitude. After modifying the adopted tactics and providing proper training to tank crews, the Second Chechen War cost Russians only 14 tanks. But the conflict saw many cases of re- cord-holding tanks which e.g. had been hit three times by a Fagot missile and six times by an RPG grenade, and still remained operable. Another interesting case is the "Abrams hunters" launched by rebels in Iraq. These hunts were particularly dangerous after 2006, when they had modern armor-piercing weapons coming from Iran, including the RPG-29. WikiLeaks published some American reports on the at- tacks on Abrams tanks. There were 47 hits, which led to only one tank being completely destroyed. 7 tanks became immobilized after being hit and had to be evacuated. As for damage, including attacks without armor penetration – e.g. affecting a crew member standing with the hatch open, there were 17 cases of damage, with only 7 cases of kills or serious injuries. These statistics apply to an optimal environment of operation of anti-tank weaponry, meaning ambushes in urbanized areas. The 47 attacks resulting in one completely destroyed tank and Modern armor is highly resistant, and effective tank-fighting requires multi-layer anti-tank defense systems.
