It seems that only effective camouflage for urban pattern officially adopted by US Armed Forces was the infamous US Army Universal Camouflage Pat- tern adopted in 2004. Named universal, but poorly effective everywhere, except… the urban areas be- cause it's greyish digital pattern. CAVEAT EMPTOR The limited number of original uniforms and acces- sories ever produced in USMC T-pattern camou- flage and very limited availability makes it a valuable collector's item. Couple years back some pieces surfaced from time to time on eBay, but recently it seems they are all gone. From time to time, some people try to sell quality copies made in late 1990s by some Japanese com- panies, but those products have some spelling mis- takes. The are also some contemporary copies from China, but the quality is very low and the colors of the pattern are off (with some pinkish tint in them). Interesting fact: there is a country which officially adopted T-pattern camouflage for its military. The Presidential Guard in Gabon use (or used) T-pattern copies in both original and desert variant. There is also one unconfirmed information. Except the BDU jacket and pants and PASGT covers there were no additional uniform elements ever manufac- tured. All hats, boonie hats or covers are commercial copies. But there was a batch of USMC eight-point utility covers manufactured from 100% legit fabric in T-pattern camouflage. Where they commercially made? Who ordered them? Why they feature STEPS Inc. labels and contract? Maybe our readers will be able to answer? www.fragoutmag.com
