available at TsAGI. If that's not enough, the Zhukovskiy airport is a
good proving ground for any new designs, with the second longest
runway in the world which is 5.4 kilometers (17 723 feet).
Zhukovskiy is also a venue where the most important Russian aviation
event is organized, namely the MAKS Aviasalon (Международный
авиационно-космический салон, International Air and Space
Salon). It is more of a trade show, than a typical air show, as noted by
Jacek Siminski, photojournalist of The Aviationist blog, in his report
from the 2017 edition of the event. Siminski was also kind enough
to provide us with imagery for the herein article. MAKS shall be
perceived rather as an aerospace trade show, organized with a main
purpose of finalizing deals and selling the products the performance
of which can be also witnessed in the air simultaneously.
People visiting MAKS this year were hoping for potential extensive
Chinese participation, since China was acting as one of the MAKS
partners. Unfortunately, apart from a mock-up of CR929 airliner and
Wing Loong UAVs the Chinese did not show a lot of their inventory
in Moscow.
